Pink Plastic Finds on Etsy

In the pink,
One can never have enough. I enjoyed putting together this collage of items found on Etsy, that utilize pink or pinkish plastic in them.  These are some of my favorite things.  I have outlined the shop and where to get them.

pink plastic fantastic

1.  These retro canisters are the cat's meow.  Vintage pink plastic with grey knobs, they are by Burroughs .  Hard to find, these 3 pieces encompass Flour, Coffee, Tea, price is $60 at Etsy Shop:  RetroGradeAntique

2.  Imagine, a custom written silly straw, well, in hot pink! This can be yours for birthdays, celebrations and even bridal gifts for only $13.75 at Etsy ShopHelloHarper.

3.   This vintage baking cupcake cake set is something else. I've never seen a matching almost complete if not complete pink plastic set like this, for the tune of $20.  Find it at Etsy shop GlamourAndGrace15

4.   Pinkish mauve makes for great plastic watering can.  I had one of these growing up in a putrid green, but Mom loved it none the less for watering houseplants.  This one is a great color, only $24.99 from Ditzy Blond Crochet.

5. This vintage style but modern phone case comes in this cool tiger print and comes in Flexi Plastic for $12, or a harder case called tough case for $18.  Find these at

SilverMagnoliasShop

6.  Monkey Diaper Pins? These vintage things would make for a fun repurpose project.  Pin your child's artwork  to the cork board or use them in junk journaling. Did I hear label pin?  Avaiable at RetroChalet , set of 3 for $15.

Plastic fantastic, how can we live without it?

Plastics Melmac Dinnerware Blog 1 Yr Old and 40000 Views

Me and Mom and our TexasWare bowl!

Happy 1st "real" Birthday to The Melmac Central Blog!  I started working on the blog last November but I wasn't really posting alot until December of 2010  Now this little blog is officially ONE YEAR OLD, and I've been blogging about lots of retro art and design plastic, jewelry, melmac dinnerware, and fantastic plastic!

I just wanted to say thanks for reading. In just one year my little blog has reached over 40,000 views and have had visitors in over 26 countries! I'm currently at a Page Rank 4 in Google and steady rank a 3 or better.   I never knew people would be reading!

What you may not know is how special this little blog is to me. You see, it was a side project at first to tribute my love of plastics to my friend Derek who had been lost to cancer.  I had not really done much with the blog, until my mother ended up with Colo-rectal cancer and I decided posting would get my mind occupied on something!  Mom beat the cancer so to speak, but died later that night in the hospital, just one year ago to be exact--so I posted, and posted, and posted! I guess you could say  posting was an outlet, and the one thing  to keep those wonderful memories of me and mom baking in our plastic fantastic alive....and my friend Derek's love for plastics too.

So thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading.....

Halsey Military Melamine and Melmac

Melamine Dinnerware
Halsey bowls, available at RetroChalet.
Halsey has been making melmac for military , school, and cafeteria use since 1950.  They are currently located in Montrose, PA all of their products are still made in the USA. Vintage military items are still plentiful and appeal to both military collectors and the melmac collector.

Halsey Tray
Halsey Tray,  RetroChalet.
"Spottled" or "mottled" browns are common, and signatures have been found both in script spelling "Halsey" , or simple block print with the letters "US" and internal Halsey codes.  Here are some examples:

Army Melamine
Mug backstamp by BlackbirdAntiques NC.

Army Melamine
Tumblers show the US backstamp, they were available at Etsy shop PrimePickins.

Halsey Melamine
A simple "H" and date code are showing on this Halsey tray by RedAshRedux.

Collecting Halsey can make a nice addition to your shabby home. I personally love the way the plastic is mottled on most military items, and no two pieces look exactly alike.  Turn your kitchen into a mess hall and serve ice cream, grapes, or salads in the cool Halsey bowls. Assembling a mini collection can be fun, and exciting because you never know what pieces you may find.

Melmac Cups
Angies Iris of Etsy had these stacking mugs.

Halsey Collection Melamine
Halsey collection for sale great tumblers, were from Prime Pickins on Etsy.
Speckled Melmac Mugs
BlackbirdAntiquesNC offers these mugs!

Halsey operates within governmental standards and their products are made to last. They sell direct mainly to governmental agencies, and have ties with the Boy Scouts!  Halsey still remains keen on using some of their more popular designs today, such as their classic mess hall mugs (10 oz)  and retro styled tumblers. They also make promotional products such as coasters, picture plates, and trays.

Halsey Melmac Tray
Update :
Note: I found a strange connection with Halsey making old turkey trays for Thanksgiving. These were once made in the 1950's by Northern Industrial Chemical Company and other manufacturers and sold over the holidays. Halsey still makes them as of 10/28/16 for custom jobs.
